2 Weeks in Africa: Friends All Day and Downtown Tunis with Spur

There is a business in Bardo called The Family Place.  It has a cafe/restaurant, a gym, and a place for classes.  It's real popular among the expat community as it's a safe place for hanging out, and it has great food!  My friend, Spur, has worked there for the past two years.  I enjoy going there when I'm in Tunis.

Apparently, on the first Sunday of every month, they have an American style family breakfast.  All the tables are pushed together in long rows, and you can order all sorts of american breakfast items.  It was fun to show up and see so many people I knew having breakfast together.  I had biscuits and gravy.  Yum.  

After breakfast, I got to go to a small group gathering, which was just lovely.  Then I hung out with this handsome man all decked out in his tie:

Then, mid-afternoon, I went and met up with Spur to wander around downtown.  I wanted to get a picture of the National Theatre house.

It was a quiet day without many people out.  I'd hoped to spot a few more buildings with Art Nouveau, but struck out.

 We went to the cafe next to the theatre and sat and drank strawberry juice.  Seriously, strawberry juice might be one of my favorite things about Tunis.  Yum.

It was fun to catch up with this sweet friend.  Notpoems sent her a message while we were together asking if Spur had gotten to see me, since I was in her country.  I told her to send this picture and say, "Does this answer your question?"  Sometimes I forget that they're friends, because I associate Spur with this side of the world and notpoems with the Marseille/America side of the world.  Funny how lines blur, sometimes...

That's sort of the main monument in downtown Tunis.  I love how proud they are of their country by putting their flag everywhere.

From there, we went to the International Fellowship, and I got to sing in English.  And surprise more friends.  What a great evening!  They had a game night afterwards, and so I went to that and got to join in some Apples to Apples fun.  After the long day I'd had the day before, and the upcoming long day to come on Monday, I was zonked and knew I should head home early.  It was a sweet day with friends!
