I have a confession.
I met an internet friend in person this week. I don't go doing this often. Or really hardly at all. But I did realize I do go meeting strangers on a regular basis and making friends of them when I'm overseas, so why not of a person here in the US? Anyway...Her name is Claire. She comments often on my blog, and has a cute little icon of her jumping for joy in the air.
So for those of you wondering how in the world I came to such a blogging addiction that I actually felt led to meet in person another blogger...here's how. Claire, somehow, randomly one day found Blue Gypsy's blog. Claire left a comment, which I read, cause Blue Gypsy is one of my favorite people on earth. I saw the comment and followed the link because I wondered who this Claire girl was. And chasing links is common (I think, anyway).
And thus I stumbled upon Claire's blog. Actually Claire and her husband's blog. I read the most recent post and laughed. I read the next most recent post and laughed some more. I became intrigued and read all of their archives back to the beginning. And then proceeded to tell them (in a comment) that I think a TV show ought to be created with the blog title, and the whole sitcom episode each week is about the random life of this funny, witty couple, and then end of the show would be of Claire sitting at the computer typing up the whole episode on her blog. (Sort of like how Doogie Howser MD used to journal at the end of his show, I think.)
Well, Claire and I became fast friends in the commenting realm. I still frequent her blog on a regular basis. And through her blog, discovered some other interesting people. And some how, it sort of became this whole forgetting that we hadn't actually met in person feeling. And that we could, if ever in the same place, sit and talk over coffee for hours.
And so we did.
I was visiting with the Honeymooners (who you may remember their fairytale wedding that I attended in Feb), and having such a blast that we thought Mrs. Honeymooner ought to tag along. Also, just in the random case that Claire turned out to be an ax murderer(and her husband, and the gazillion bloggers that are in her community who were therefore all also pretending to be nice, Bible believing people), that well, I wouldn't die alone. (And as Mr. Honeymooner put it, "chopped up in a box and shoved under their bed.")
Mrs. Honeymooner and I did immediately notice the rather large sword on the mantle, and wondered if it would be shoved through my heart were she not there to protect me. But honestly, I was never worried about Claire being an ax murderer. Interestingly enough, blood WAS shed during my meeting with Claire--hers and mine. Not from a sword (or ax), but from her Attack Kitten Stanne. Now...he was a force to be reckoned with.
So anyway, the three of us talked for hours and hours and hours, and it was like I'd always known Claire and just had never really been able to BE with her in person. We could pretend that it was because I was ought of the country (which is the reason I don't get to have coffee with most of you), or that whenever I came through the town where she lives (like I did this week) that she was off in New England or the real England (as she has been known to go) and we just missed each other.
There are many things I could write about why I like Claire, but here's how I see things. Either you KNOW Claire, and you would therefore know why I like Claire. Or you don't know Claire at all, and probably won't ever meet her, because well, nothing connects our two circles of influence, and therefore, it's just me talking about somebody you don't know (which I've already done for this entire post). But I will say this: if you ever have to meet someone that you "met" through the internet, you should hope that (1) you get to meet Claire or (2) you get to meet someone like Claire and (3) that the whole meeting is a splendortastic as our day was. (The "tastic" is for you Claire!) All in all, I like Claire.

Claire is cool, but that Bradley? I don't know; I'd trust him as far as I could throw him[and considering I can barely even pick him up...] :-)
Oh my GOODNESS! I am so honored by this outpouring of splendortasticness! Wow! SO FUNNY because the day before you came, Brad said something about being around when you came so in case you were a crazed murderer he could protect me. What a HOOT!
I'm so glad you came, you brave thing, you!
And I can't believe all your links! Oh my word! That is such a riot!
From another friend-of-Brad n' Claire's (who doesn't comment very much but who also thoroughly enjoys your blog), I would have to concur. We like Claire. I'm so glad you guys got to visit! It's like you're really real!
One half of a mile.
One little teensy stinking half mile. That's how far away I was when you were at Claire's house. And I'm not even an axe murderer (at least when Claire is around to calm me down.)
Oh well. Maybe next time.
I love Claire, too, and I'm so glad you guys met, and I'm so glad I was one of your links!
Hooray for Soj.
I love Claire, too! And I'm so glad that you met her onblog, because it means that I got to "meet" you too!
A fellow gadder-about
